Chasin’ Popcorn in the Wind (On a Sandy Beach)

Popcorn

We hopped in our golf cart and went for a ride.

Decided to see the sea since it was high tide.

When we arrived, it was windy as heck,

Which did keep the skeeters from nibbling my neck.

We brought cocktails for our beachside happy hour,

And a bowl of popcorn that we could devour.

But when we started eating our buttery delights

Before getting to our mouths, the corn took off in flight.

We chased our fluffy nuggets from the sand to the grass,

Hoping we’d not trip or slide on our ass,

Each grab of corn was thrown in the air,

While we reached to grab trying not to despair.

But the kernels were sent to incredible heights,

And we knew right then that we should have brought kites.

We finally pounced on two big, popped kernels -

The comic effect was one for the journals -

And shoved the rescued bites through open lips,

Thinking it might have been better to have brought chips,

For we soon spat out the corn with a gritty refrain,

Popcorn at the beach in the wind would not happen again.
